A window regulator carries the glass up and down. Most are a metal frame with plastic pulleys, clips that hold the glass, and a motor.

Common signs

  • Whining or spinning sound when you press the switch — the cable has usually slipped off a pulley.
  • Window dropped into the door — the glass has come loose from its clips.
  • Window tilts forward or back when it moves — common with non-original glass.

Parts and price

Regulators are easy to buy at AutoZone or O'Reilly, or online, often for half the dealer price. Our labor starts at $75 on most non-luxury vehicles; doors with an integrated module take more work and cost more.
